Benefits of Tinting your Car Windows
- Privacy: This benefit is probably the most well-known with tinting your car’s windows. You can use tinting to create a private environment inside of your car.
- Temperature Control: This feature of window tinting is lesser known. Tinting your windows deflects direct sunlight from entering your car and causing the temperature to increase.
- UV Ray Protection: Tinted windows stop 99.9% of UV rays from penetrating your windows, which can be harmful to you and your passengers.
- Accident Safety: The film placed on your windows that provides the window tint can prevent your windows from shattering in the event of an accident.

What are Ontario’s Car Window Tinting Laws?
Before tinting your car windows in Ontario, it’s important to know the legal limits to avoid fines or issues with your vehicle.
Windshield Tinting
Tinting the windshield is illegal in Ontario. Any film or darkening applied to the windshield can result in fines and failed safety inspections. It must remain completely clear for safe driving visibility.
Front Side Windows
The front side windows (driver and passenger) can only be tinted up to 30%. This means at least 70% of light must pass through. Anything darker is not allowed and can lead to tickets or inspection failures.
Rear Windows
There are no restrictions on the rear side windows or rear windshield. You can tint these as dark as you like, as long as your vehicle has proper side mirrors.
What can I clean my tinted car windows with?
It’s best to wait about a week after tinting before cleaning your windows. This allows the film to fully cure and prevents moisture from causing bubbles. When cleaning, use a soft, non-abrasive cloth (like microfiber) and a gentle, ammonia-free cleaner to avoid damaging the tint. Avoid using rough materials or harsh chemicals that could scratch or peel the film.
How long before I can roll down my tinted car windows?
It's best to wait about 3 days after installing your window tints before rolling them down. This gives the tint film enough time to fully cure and adhere to the glass, helping to prevent peeling or bubbling.
