For automotive applications a smoke coloured tint is used. Tint has a full spectrum of colours, patterns and shades that are used in commercial applications.
The most common automotive tint shades used are 5%, 20%, 35% and 70%. The percentage indicates the amount of visible light transmission (VLT) the tint allows into the vehicle. The tint percentage can vary slightly depending on the manufacturer. Whether the actual VLT is 18% or 20% the tint community generally calls it a 20% film.

Ontario limits how dark the windshield and front side windows can be. Here's a quick summary:
Use an ammonia-free glass cleaner, or a light mixture of mild soapy water or vinegar, with a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid ammonia-based products, abrasive pads and scrapers, which can scratch or damage the film.
Keep your windows up for 3 to 5 days after installation so the film can fully cure and bond to the glass. Warm daytime temperatures help it dry faster. In cold or humid weather, curing may take a little longer.
